Cross Stitched Textile With Tassels
This vintage textile (circa 1970's) originates from Uzbekistan where it is used as a decoration for tribal yurts. The black cotton base is embroidered with cotton thread in green, red, pale yellow and ivory. The other side is a woven cotton in muted shades of raspberry, rose and periwinkle blue stripes. It measures 3" wide by 17" long and four colorful tassels are attached to the bottom. Each tassel is wrapped with multi colored threads and seed beads. They are all about 7" long. Within the layers of the base fabric, I can feel that each tassels top is constructed in the shape of a loop. The stitches holding them in place could easily be snipped to release them, should you wish to use the tassels to embellish a tribal bellydance belt or headband.
